Fishing report ending 21st Jan

Hello folks. This is the fishing report for the week ending 21st Jan 2007.

Main lake
Well the milder weather is still here and the fishing is taking a turn for the better. There have been some good bags of bream and skimmers this week. Ryan, our fisheries superintendent was feeder fishing and was catching steady all day using the ground bait feeder with a mix he made - VDE expanda gold with chopped worm, caster and single red maggot as hook bait. He was fishing at 40 yrd changing to the maggot feeder every 10 casts. His end tackle consisted of a size 16 hook and 3lb hook lenth as well. Many other people were fishing the long pole off the dam wall loose feeding caster and pinkies as hook bait. The silver fishing is giving anglers great sport.

Doughnut lake
The poor weather earlier this week saw winds reaching over 80mph so not a lot of anglers on this more exposed lake. However, the ones who have braved it have fished well. The biggest bag was a good 35lb of roach and perch on the short pole loose feeding maggots.

Main lake - carp fishing
Tony Ashworth showed us all how to do it again with a 16lb mirror and a perfect 3lb crucian carp. Tony was fishing an orange 10ml pop up with a small pva bag casting 70 yards or so. Graham - another regular caught a nice 8lb ghostie on a pineapple pop up.

Fly lake
The fishing has been quite good for the days that you could fish. For some of the week, the winds have made the lake unfishable. On the milder days the flys catching have been cats whisker, bloodworm, buzzer and yellow fritz.

General
In response to several requests we have made up a few mixed bags of ground bait which consist of VDE and others which Ryan has tried and tested. They are good for catching skimmers and excellent value at just £1 per bag.

Let´s hope this wild weather soon calms down and we look forward to seeing you all on the banks soon. Best wishes.
