fishing report for week ending 25th March, 2007
Hello everyone,
This weather is a bit up and down at the moment. We seem to be having some reasonable days and you start to think - thats good winter has left us, and then all of a sudden we seem to have the very cold bitter days. Here is the fishing report.
Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
Well what can I say expect that the old Doughnut Lake is really on top form. VDE micro pellets oaked in water making a paster with pellets over the top is really successful. Fishing tight to the margins or the long pole seems to help. Using a hook no bigger that 16 is favourite. Maggots caster and pinkies have proved very very successful. John Mahoney recorded the biggest bag this week (43lbs of mixed silvers - tench, and skimmers). Ryan helped this angler by making him a nice paste mix of vde micro pellets. Over the weekend quite a few anglers came down with smiles on their face.
Main Lake (pleasure)
The main lake has started to settle down nicely and fish are showing all over. Jack and Bob, two regular anglers had a terrific days fishing. They caught over 30 bream and roach using ground bait feeder and casting 40 yards with red maggot as hook bait. Lots of our anglers are using maggot feeder with some good results. Best bag recorded was a nice 60lb bag of mixed fish. In this bag there was a nice 9lb bream.
Main Lake (carp)
Although there have been quite a few carp caught this week its been the low figures that have been landed. They are falling to misshape boilies with small pva bags of pellet. Amongst the carp caught are 16lb common from dam wall. Two commons averaging 13lb ish were caught by Dillon Jones from pegs 65/66. The dam wall has seen quite a bit of action with some small commons being caught. Peg 24/25 has alsoyielded two small commons this week. For those carpers who have not read our report for some time I should like to point out that we netted the main lake in February and we were amazed with the sizes and the number of large carp in our lake. We are hoping that we will be able to report on some really big fish being caught this season. Please remember that if you catch a fish over 30lbs it must be verified by one of our baillifs. If its during the night, remember that Ryan and Lisa are happy to get up and verify a fish for you. Please always rememeber to get a carp information sheet from the office with their out of hours mobile number on it. Lastly, don't forget to bring your camera. We will always have our available as well to make sure we are able to capture the moment.
Fly Lake
We have had some excellent sport this week. Black buzzers, vivas, flexi floss, have all shown good results. Bloodworm are the flies to use on a varied retreive has been great for catching some decent sized rainbows. Brown trout are falling to daddies and small dry nats leaving them to drift in the wind.
Averages are as follows:
Monday 9.5
Tuesday 3.2
Wednesday 3.3
Thursday 1.2
Friday 2.0
Saturday 4.5
Sunday 1.9
GENERAL
Thank you to all those anglers who have sent me an email saying they really approve of what we are trying to do with our "educational facility." A lot of people have said that they feel this will really help keep the sport alive and help young people also appreciate that there is more to life than sitting in front of a computer playing games or hanging around on street corners and sometimes getting into the wrong company. We hope to hear from the planners in a week or so (fingers crossed).
We have just place a world first aerator on the Doughnut Lake. Initial indications are an improvement in our fishes health and vigour. The real test will be in Spring (which is the most vunerable time for our fish mortalities). We are also taking steps to try avoiding the loss of fish in the main lake but for now we are not making our methods public.
Hope to see you on the banks soon.
best wishes
