fishing report week ending 11th March, 2007
Hiya everyone,
Thanks for being patient with us. I am delighted to say that we have now pulled back most of the reeds from the main lake and the fly lake. It will really improve fishing and hopefully the spawning, as the new growth will be vigorous, but thinner. The work started on Tuesday and finished on Thursday. Sadly fishing has been very slow, perhaps because of the disruption caused by the job. Although most noise and activity makes the fish curious, the work has stirred up silt and with it some bloodworm, providing a ready source of food. It had to be done and now was the best time of the year to do it. We hired some outside contractors, who we know very well to do the work. They have done a great job. Here is the fishing report for last week.
Main Lake (Pleasure)
The main lake has performed badly this week. Anglers have struggled to do well at this time. The biggest bag was only a 17lb bag which came out on maggot feeder with an 18 hook. If it was our work that has disrupted the fishing here, it should soon be back to normal.
Main Lake (Carp)
The weed removal may have pushed the fish into deeper water. Only three carp have been caught, namely an 18lb mirror, a 16lb common and a 4lb ghostie. Things should soon be back to normal.
Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
This lake was untouched and the fishing has been superb. Our anglers are starting to really have some excellent sport up on this lake. There have been some really nice bags of fish caught using long pole, fishing micro pellet and maggot with loose feed of caster and chop worm. Bags of 20lb, and 30lb have been recorded on our records. Carp and tench have shown well. Van den Eyde micro pellet as loose feed has done well. There have been some very happy anglers reporting some really nice ghost carp.
Fly Lake
Our anglers have had a cracking week fishing buzzers, bloodworm, and mighty cats whisker on a varied retrieve. The work done on the fly lake has made fishing much easier. There have been some really nice rainbows and browns reported caught. Averages were as follows:
Monday 7.5
Tuesday 1.4
Wednesday 1.7
Thursday 0.8
Friday 2.1
Saturday 5.6
Sunday 2.4
Well folks thats all for now. Hope to see you on the banks.
best wishes
