fishing report week ending 8th April, 2007
Hello everyone, hope you had a terrific Easter. The weather has been really good (for a Bank Holiday), and Pendle View banks have been really busy.
Main Lake (Carp)
We have seen quite a few carp being caught this week and quite a few lot. Some low figure ghost carp have been caught on barrel shaped boilies on small hook links made up of flourocarbon and size 10 hooks. Their have also been some low doubles using the same tactics. The story of the week goes to Craig Geard of Burnley who caught a great common from peg 48/49 on Sunday 7th April at about 5.00pm. Craig had only been on the banks for ten minutes when he landed this lovely 39lb 5oz common which fell to a spicy shrimp boilie (see photo gallery). Fifteen minutes later he landed a nice 18lb 10oz common. You may recall that Craig caught a nice 37lb 2oz carp on the 6th August, 2006. Well done Craig - many more of em mate.
Main Lake (Pleasure)
The main lake has been a bit up and down. With the weathr becoming warmer the fish have started to move into shallow water with some good bags of skimmers , bream, and big roach coming out to feeder with pole tactics. Feeder tactics that have worked are ground bait made up of ringers dark and ringers carp bag up mix with liquid worm mixed together with caster pinkies and chopped worm. Hook sizes have been 14/16 with a long hook length casting 40 yeards . Pole tactics seem to be caster as hook bait or pellet fished at 12 to 16 metres with a size 16 hook. The biggest bag recorded this week was a nice 80lb bag of silvers made up of skimmers, bream and ghost carp. This bag was recorded against John Lord on Thursday last week. Other bags of 30 - 40lb have been recorded.
Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
The long pole fished to the margin on a corner peg with paste made up of micro pellet is successfully catching carp, tench, and bream. Our anglers keep asking how to make it. Apparently its quite simple and this is how Ryan says it should be done. Simply pour a quarter bag of Van Den Eynde micro pellet in a tube and add water to cover the top. Leave to soak and knead it until you get a smooth texture and mould round the hook. Loose feeding micro pellet and ringers dark paste as hook bait is also a good tactic with predator plus to give it a different colour. We have had lots of happy and satisfied anglers fish this lake and the biggest bag recorded went to an angler who only recorded his first name (Geoff) who had a great 55lb bag of mixed fish using the tactics above.
Fly Lake
Dry fly season is amongst us again. Early morning and lake afternoon seems to be the best time to catch. Small black nat or gray dusty wolf are the best drys to use. Just leaving them to move in the wind with a twitch back now and then. Montanna and tadpole cats whisker lures on a quick retrieve with a blob and river dance are also working. Bloodworm and black buzzer on a strike indicator are a good tactic to use. Here are the averages.
Monday 1.3
Tuesday 2.3
Wednesday 6.6
Thursday 0.1
Friday 1.9
Saturday 7.3
Sunday 5.0
I have received lots of emails this week from very satisfied customers who have had some really good sessions on the fly lake. The de weeding seems to have made conditions much better.
GENERAL NEWS
Now that the summer is nearly here we are possibly looking to recruit one extra person at Pendle View. Before I advertise I wondered if there are any anglers that are interested or know of someone that would be interested. We need someone that can cook, help issue tickets, give advice about our bait and tackle, use a till, and generally look after our customers. We are looking for someone who can do a Saturday and possibly Sunday (we are most busy at weekends). The hours are 7.00am till 9.00pm. Training would be given for the right person. If you know of any body - please get in touch with me. Males and females are welcome to apply. (some of the best chefs are fellas).
Well folks thats all for now.
best wishes
Lin at Pendle View
