Fishing report week ending 15th April, 2007

Hello everyone, what great weather and its only April. Here is the fishing report.

Main Lake (pleasure)
This lake has fished on top form with plenty of skimmers, bream, roach and crucian carp showing. The fish have moved into shallow water and best tactics for bream has been feeder fishing using ringers dark ground bait. Fish meal ground bait is also working well. 3/4 ringers dark and 3.4 ringers bag up bait mixed with VDE liquid worm is proving very successful. This along with caster, pinkies, and a scatter of maggots and chopped worm int he feeder, plus red maggot on the hook is a magic formula. Pre- baiting has also worked well (but don't over do it). There have been some really big bags recorded this week from 60lbs to 120lbs. One angler used a long pole with 5lb main line and a 3lb hook length. He used loose feed pellet and fish meal pellet on the hook and had a terrific session.

Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
This lake has really come into its own. Its about four years old now and the last few months it has fished its head off. It is doing very well to paste. VDE micro pellet or ringers dark paste with pellets over th top and close to the margin on pole is working very well. Best pole tactics are fishing two swims and two rigs. Make a pole rig up, plumb up in the margin making sure that you take your time and get it right. A good pole rig can last you most of the year. Remember to feed a handful of pellets in the margin. Take a tube and cover the bottom with pellets. Add a little water just to cover the pellets. Fr your second swim make a new rig with a carp number 2 float with shot about five inches away from the hook. For best results use a size 16 hook. Plumb up and ground bait. Then with four balls loose feed with maggot or pinkies, caster, with pellet or worm as hook bait. After about two hours try your margin swim. There have been some cracking results this week with bags of 45lb to 78lb recorded.

Main Lake (Carp)
What a terrific week its been with plenty of low doubles caught. The most successful pegs have been 48/49, 56/57, 61/62, and of course the dam wall. Most fish have been caught on floaters, but again its been down to hook links and fluorocarbon. PVA bags and a little bait are also successfully helping anglers to catch fish. Pop ups have also worked with bottom baits during the night. The following fish have been caught this week. 20lb common, 16lb 4oz common, 18lb common, 12lb common, 10lb common, 16lb common, 6lb ghostie, 12lb common, 12lb mirror, 10lb mirror, 11lb grassie, 12lb common, 12lb mirror, 4lb 8oz ghosie, 17lb common. Its now Monday 16th April, and Craig Geald the chap who caught the 39lb 5oz is back fishing with us. He is doing a 48 hour stint and he has already caught 8 fish....the biggest so far a nice 26lb common. I was just about to commit this to the web site when the fisheries phoned to say that a nice 34lb 6oz common has just been landed.

Fly Lake
Dry fishing early morning and late afternoon is giving anglers really good sport at the moment. Black lures and buzzers are working well also using a quick retrieve or static floating line. I had a nice email from one of our regulars Mike. Mike said he had a good day this week and caught 25 fish, each weighing about 2lbs each. Mike said all but one were good fighting fish. Here are the averages.

Monday 3.1
Tuesday 4.1
Wednesday 4.8
Thursday 7.3
Friday 4.1
Saturday 5.9
Sunday 1.8

Hope to see you on the banks

best wishes
