fishing report week ending 6th May,2007
Hello everyone,
Hope you all had a good Bank Holiday weekend. Typical bank holiday weather eh, great through the week and then a bit miserable Sunday and Monday. It was nice to see a few familiar faces on the banks this weekend. Here is the fishing report.
Main Lake (pleasure)
With the fishing beginning to spawn bag weights are dropping slightly. Having said that there is still plenty of sport to be had. Ringers dark and bag up mix is still proving successful for bream. The biggest bag this week fell to young Arron from Liverpool with a good 80lb bag of skimmers and bream. Arron's set up was a 12 foot feeder rod with 7lb main line down to a 4lb hook link with a size 14 B911 kamasan hook. He used a snap swivel to change feeders from a 30g to a 20g feeder with worm as hook bait and red maggot.
Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
The doughnut lake is seeing fish spawn all over and this again has affected bag weights. Mr. Taylforth (a regular to this lake) caught a nice 45lb bag of silvers. He was fishing pellet and caster. Many anglers have struggled this week on this lake. Some anglers fished the margins with vde micro pellet and caster with paste as hook bait. The long pole is playing a big part on this lake at the moment with a wire stem pole float keeping hook baits steady and close to the bottom. I had a chat personally with one or two anglers today and some anglers were doing quite well, whilst other were struggling. I did see a nice carp landed on one of the corner pegs. It gave the angler quite a fight.
Main Lake (carp)
A great week for carp angler. Lots of carp have been landed. I hasten to add we have not seen any of the high 30's - but having said that there have been some very happy anglers on our banks. One of our regulars emailed to say that he had 10 carp during a 24 hour session. The biggest was only 19lb, but the angler said he enjoyed some great sport. Pegs 20/21, 87/88/ 24/25, 65/66 have seen most of the action. Fish recorded as caught this week are as follows: 8lb mirror, 22lb mirror, 24lb mirror, 19lb 9oz leather, 18lb common, 17lb mirror, 16lb mirror, 9lb mirror, 16lb common, 18lb mirror, 15lb mirror, 13lb common, 17lb mirror, 8lb mirror, 19lb mirror, 4lb common, 11lb common, 12lb ghostie, 20lb mirror, 14lb mirror, 21lb mirror, 19lb mirror, 16lb mirror, 14lb mirror. and a 16lb grass. The biggest fish of the week was a 29lb 13oz common. A variety of bait has proved successful including tiger nut boilies, pop ups, fusion boilies. One of our anglers reported losing a really big fish this week. Some of our really successful carpers have visited our venue this week. I was speaking to a regular angler this week - it was Chris Boyle the angler who caught the 40lb 8oz fish nearly eighteen months ago now. He was saying he had been on for 48 hours and blanked this time. We were saying just how difficult a water Pendle can be. I remember Rob Hughes the very famous national carper visiting our water and saying the very same thing. We are also looking at the possibility of adding more carp pegs to the main lake. This is currently under discussion at present and I will keep you all posted.
Fly fishing
Trout fishing has been really up and down with the dry fly, catswhisker and tadpole being the flys to use on a varied retrieve. Floating line early morning for lures and later afternoon for drys is working well. The averages for the week are as follows:
Monday 5.7
Tuesday 3.6
Wednesday 6.5
Thursday 1.2
Friday 3.3
Saturday 4.7
Sunday 1.8
Well folks thats all for now
best wishes
Lin from Pendle View
