Fishing report week ending 27th May, 2007

Hiya everyone,

Hope you all had a great Bank Holiday. Our banks were very busy despite the not so good weather conditions. Having said that lots of anglers enjoyed some good sport. Here is the fishing report for last week.

Main Lake (Carp)
I have received hundreds of emails from anglers who have congratulated us on the recent 40lb 5oz fish. Quite a couple of anglers have said they now think there is more than one 40lb plus in our waters, and Philip and I tend to agree. Over the last week lots of carper came to try their luck and the biggest fish brought to the bank was a nice 31lb common caught by Dave Walker from Manchester. Other fish reported caught last week were 10lb common, 20lb common, 20lb ghostie, 20lb 6oz common, 18lb common, 16lb mirror, 18lb ghostie, 16lb common 17lb common and 18lb mirror. Most successful pegs were 21/22, 48/49, 71/72 and the dam wall.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
Ringers Dark and Carp bag up with mixed seed hemp and worm has been doing the trick. Lots of anglers have reported 40lb plus bags this week. Two anglers emailed me this week from Lincolnshire. They were working down this area and told me they took a day off to try our lake. They both said they had a great days fishing and bagged up some lovely silvers. John Simms from Barnoldswick said he fished our dam wall on Tuesday and had a great session. His bag weighed in at 48lbs.

Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
Kyle one of our bailiffs fished this lake the other day and caught a nice 49lb bag of fish. Kyle used halibut paste and corn. John Furnell used red maggot on feeder and landed a 30lb bag. Alan Grose and his partner Annie also had a great session and landed 30lb bags of silvers on Thursday. Terry (and we cannot read his surname) landed a 75lb bag using pellet and caster on pole. Ray Smith used meat and corn and landed a nice 68lb bag. I can remember during the first years of opening this lake when we struggled to report bags of 20lb plus. More and more of our pleasure anglers are opting to fish this lake. Can I say a special thank you to those anglers who sometimes forget to complete their catch returns (i.e. call back into the office). Quite a few of you have taken to emailing me when this happens. We love to get your feedback - it all helps to write the catch report.

Fly Lake
As you can see from the averages below, the fly lake is fishing really well. We have now started stocking the lake twice a week and this has made a big difference. Anglers are reporting 30 or 40 fish in one session. The staggered stocking has made a big difference and we will continue to do this. The averages are as follows:

Monday 3.4
Tuesday 1.0
Wednesday 8.0
Thursday 3.5
Friday 3.3
Saturday 5.7
Sunday 1.0

Bloodworm, CD buzzers and Montanna have worked well. In the milder weather Daddies and Black Knat have done well.

GENERAL
To help out during these busy months we have offered a summer contract to a young man called Tom. Tom did his work experience with us some years ago and so you may have met him before. We are busy at the moment cutting and strimming the grass. As you all know we try and make sure that any disruption is kept down to a minimum. We are also starting work on some steps down to the fly lake. Because the slope is quite steep we are building the steps using a zig zag method. This will ensure that the climb up or down these steps is more gradual. Again we will try and keep disruption down to a minimum. Lastly we have heard that our planning application for an "educational facility" may be heard the second week in June. If our plans are accepted then we will start work on the facility later in June. The aim is to open a novice pond for learners. So all learners can have access we plan to build special pegs so that both able bodied and disabled anglers may use our facility. We have also asked our local planners if we can build a special school house so that the theory of angling can be taught. I am not sure how many of you know this, but they are introducing angling onto the school curriculum. This will ensure that our great sport attracts more new learners year on year.

ATTENTION ALL DAY TICKET PLEASURE ANGLERS
Last year we offered a special incentive for our fly anglers. This year its the pleasure day anglers turn. From the lst June if a pleasure angler buys a day ticket during the months of June, July, or August on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday we would ask you to retain them. If you then keep all your tickets together and hand them in to one of the bailiffs you will get your fifth day ticket session free of charge. Free tickets can be used in June, July or August and offer will end on the last day of September, 2007. The FREE fifth session will entitle the angler to fish free for the day using one rod.

A BIT OF FUN
As owners of the fisheries we receive lots of emails showing photographs of some great catches. It never fails to amaze me how some of our carp anglers manage to look really bright eyed and bushy tailed during some of the takes. I did have a chuckle when I was handed the attached photograph. Its a picture of one of our staff (Dave - our Mr. Fixit). Boy did this photograph catch him unaware.....Now then if you have one that can beat this one I want to see it and post it to our web site.

Well folks thats all for now.
best wishes,
Lin from Pendle View
