fishing report week ending 20.5.2007

Hello everyone,

Main Lake (Carp)
This is the news I have been waiting to deliver....at last one of our big fish has emerged. As you know Chris Bollard landed a wonderful 40lb 5oz common on mailine active 8. As soon as I put the email out telling you all the great news I had about 80 emails back from lots of anglers saying WELL DONE CHRIS. The great news was that there were plenty of anglers there to see the event. Chris a bricklayer from Southport was so shocked and delighted to land the fish. Chris basically decided to come fishing after a year break because his son had been pestering him to come fishing. So Chris and is son turned up and the only peg left was peg 24/25. Chris admitted he didn't really fancy that particular peg but thought well that's the only one left. Wow what a nice Common it looks. Chris said it gave him quite a fight.

There have been quite a few carp recorded this week - 16lb mirror, 18lb mirror, 14oz mirror, 8lb grassie, 18lb 8oz common, 22lb common, 11lb mirror 16lb mirror, 12lb common 10lb grassie, 26lb 3oz mirror, 15lb common, 19lb mirror, 20lb common, 15lb common, 24lb ghost carp,. 14lb common. Tony Ashworth one of our regulars decided to do a bit of evening fishing on the dam wall during the week and caught a nice 31lb 2oz common using dog biscuit. He also caught 2 different 15lb commons and 2 different 10lb grass carp during the same session. Pop ups and misshaped boilies have worked well. Most successful pegs have been 24/25, 88/89, 71/72, 33/34 and of course the dam wall. So what other big carp do we think is in there. Philip and I have a little wager on at the moment that we will see a 42lb plus before the year is out.

Main Lake(pleasure)
The main lake is performing really well with silvers, bream and skimmers coming out to feeder and the long pole. Biggest bag recorded this week was a 75lb of skimmers and big bream. Long pole fishing at 12 metres seems to have been successful. With the warmer weather fish are starting to feed heavy so plenty of loose via the catapult is a good tactic. Bags of 40lb plus have been recorded. Lisa our General Manager actually took a day off last Wednesday and for the first time in ages decided to go fishing. Lisa caught a nice 30lb bag of fish. She caught a lovely 7lb 5oz Bream. Lots of big bream have been landed this week.

Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
The doughnut lake is fishing well with top bait as paste corn and worm. Some anglers are reporting 60lb plus bags of tench, carp and skimmers using long pole and fishing close to the margins. This lake has really started coming into its own. When I look back over the three years we have recorded catches on this lake - it has never been better.

Fly Lake
Floating lines seem to be scoring well with trout coming out to many flies, and buzzers fished uder a sight indicator. Green and black buzzers also seem to be working with olive, fritz mid afternoon and drys late evening for some fast sport. Here are the averages.

Monday 2.5
Tuesday 7.8
Wednesday 3.7
Thursday 1.0
Friday 1.0
Saturday 1.3
Sunday 6.9
