Fishing Report week ending 8th July, 2007

Hello everyone,

I am very saddened indeed to tell you that Lisa's dad (Idwall), died this week. As you know Lisa is the young lady who manages Pendle View Fisheries. She is lady who greets you at the counter, issues the tickets and probably makes you a delicious bacon butty. The last few weeks have been particularly difficult for Lisa and her family. All the staff at Pendle View have tried to do extra shifts so that Lisa, and Kyle could spend as much time with Idwal as possible. I personally only met Idwal about six times. He was such a character with a great sense of humour. He always had a smile and a few words of wisdom for me. He struck me as a very sincere, honest and honourable family man who obviously thought the world of his wife, and his children and grandchildren. Idwal's funeral will take place on Tuesday 10th July. I know that quite a few of you have sent messages of support to Lisa and her family during this very difficult time.

In order to be able to let Lisa spend some time with her dad last week I also spent quite a bit of time at the fisheries. Its such a long time since I was "hands on." I would first of all like to thank all our customers for their patience. The first day I was there we had suffered a flash flood during the night so I was greated at 6.45am by gushing water coming from our venue straight onto the A59. What a day that was. It took us several hours to reduce the levels of the water. I quickly walked around the site to make sure all our overnight carp anglers were okay. Some had slept right through the storm.

Well the rain certaily has not spoilt fishing opportunities - here is the fishing report.

Main Lake (Carp)
Some beauties caught this week. Having spent four full days at the fishery last week it was great to hear in person about these catches. Here are some of the results recorded: 10b commonb, 24lb 4oz common, 17lb common, 22lb common, 10lb commonb, 5lb ghostie, 9lb mirror, 12lb mirror, 26lb common, 25lb common, 10lb grass, 10lb 5oz mirror, 18lb common, 25lb common, 10lb common, 18lb common, 29lb 8oz common, 23lb 3oz common, 23lb common, 10lb commonb, 11lb common. Craig Geald fished us this weekend (he was the angler that caught the 39lber featured on our web site some months ago). I am delighted to tell you that Craig landed a nice 28lb mirror this time. Jim Ewart had a nice session with us he ended up catching 7 nice carp of various sizes. Carp have in fact been showing all over the lake. I would say that there were no particular hot spots and that an assortment of baits have worked.

Doughnut Lake
Wow what a great week for results on the Doughnut Lake. Lots of big bags have been reported, Here are just a few of the results that we have recorded: 40lb bag, 60lb bag, 30lb bag, 28lb bag, 32lb bag. Two chaps who fished at the weekend recorded 80lb bags each. We cannot read their names on the catch report but they have logged their post code as BB1 OED. Don Brennan of Samlesbury emailed me on Wednesday and said he had a nice 58lb bag of silvers. Don said that he had been fishing the Doughnut Lake now every week for about six weeks and his results have been getting better each time. I must admit quite a few of our anglers who used to fish the main lake are opting to try the Doughnut Lake.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
Chris Holliday had a superb day on Monday when he recorded a 100lb bag of silvers (mostly made up of bream and small carp). Chris fished peg 55. Graham Tonge went one better and fished peg 52 and caught a nice 110lb bag of silvers. He used feeder and pole. Other bags reported are as follows: 25lb bag, 26lb bag, 34lb bag, 42lb bag and 60lb bag. Bags have been made up of bream and assorted silvers. Quite a few small carp have also been caught.

Fly Lake
The averages are as follows:

Monday 3.7
Tuesday No anglers due to storms
Wednesday 6.5
Thursday 8.3
Friday 11.2
Saturday 8.5
Sunday 3.6

Chris Holland from Bury caught 10 fish during his two hour catch and release session, whilst Mark Rowe from Preston caught 24 fish on a three hour catch and release session. Flys that seem to be working are bloodworm, cats whisker, and olive.

GENERAL
We are struggling in between high volumes of rain to keep our grass as neat as possible. I guess the whole country is struggling with this one at the moment. We are also having a site tidy up and putting all our building materials behind some fencing so that it will look neater on the eye.

I have felt particularly proud this week as I have been at the "coal face" of the operation. I have had so many people congratulate us on running a great venue. It really makes me proud to hear all the compliments paid to our staff. Being hands on last week made me realise what a good job they all do. I said to Lisa that after four long days of working 7am in the morning till 9.00pm that my legs were a little stiff. Still I did enjoy meeting some of our great customers and having a good old chin wag.

Well folks thats all for now - hope to see you on the banks.

best wishes
Lin from Pendle View
