Fishing report week ending 29th July, 2007

Hello everyone,

Well they have officially declared this has been the worst summer in over 200 years. I have been speaking to quite a few fishery owners in various parts of the country and they say its one of the worst trading years they have had. As you know we have been very lucky at Pendle View we do have flood control measures in place so that we can avoid any of our stock getting away. I have to say I feel very sorry for the owners of those fisheries affected. Yes we have had bad weather in the our area but nothing compared to what has occured elsewhere. On the whole our venue has been very busy and I would personally like to thank everyone who has made it to our banks. Here is the fishing report.

Main Lake (Carp)
We have had lots of people do well this week. I also had an email from Dave Entwistle who was missed off the catch report from last week. Steve who comes from Bolton caught a nice 29lb 7oz carp from peg 21/22 - sorry about that Dave and well done. Here is the list of carp recorded for this week. Peg 25 - 15lb mirror, 22lb mirror, peg 65 30lb 8oz from Gareth Morling. Peg 61 26lb mirror, 10lb common, 8lb mirror and 13lb common - all on monster crab. Peg 72 9lb mirror, 17lb common, 20lb 8oz common all caught by Paul Casserkey from Preston. Peg 71 9lb mirror, 9lb common caught by Mark Atherton from Blackpool. Dave Rothwells son, also called Dave (our bailiff) had a great time. He landed a 24lb carp on prawn. He popped into the office on Friday when I was there and you should have seen the beam on his face. Little Dave is only 12 years of age. The dam wall has also seen a lot of action this week and the following fish have been recorded as caught. 14lb mirror, 21lb 14oz linear, 16lb 8oz mirror, 17lb 8oz mirror, 16lb linear, 10lb common, 21lb common, 10lb common and a 9lb mirror. I had a really nice email from Paul Wilson today. He and his dad travelled 5 hours from Scotland to fish with us. Paul said he had a belting time and landed quite a few fish. The biggest was his personal UK best. It was a nice 28lb mirror. Paul and his dad said they would be back soon. Well done Paul, and really pleased to hear you enjoyed your session with us. Tony Ashworth (one of our regulars) has been back this week. Tony fished the dam wall on floating dog biscuit with his mate Brian and did well. Tony is a cracking carper I noticed he fished Bluebell Lakes recently and caught 121lb worth of fish. The biggest fish he caught was Benson which is now a staggering 57lb 8oz in weight. I asked Tony why he still visits us and he said you have a very interesting water Lin and it always presents me with a challenge.

Main Lake (Pleasure)
More and more of our pleasure anglers are electing to fish the Doughnut Lake. I have to say that results have been disappointing because of this reason and although some bags have been recorded ranging from 20lb to 35lb bags fishing has been slow.

Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
Some great catches recorded this week. Quite a few anglers have fished the doughnut lake. Amongst those catches are John Simpson with a nice 25lb bag, Mike Johnson fished peg 100 and caught a 27lb bag on pole. Alan Taylor caught a nice 45lb bag on Tuesday using corn and pellet. Paul Duxbury had a great day when he caught a nice 35lb bag of silvers. Colin Dowling seems to have had the biggest bag of the week with a nice 66lb bag of fish using feeder, with pellet and corn. Maggot, pellet and corn have done very well this week. Mark Johnson from Chorley sent me a really lovely email this week. He told me that he was down in the dumps because he had just been made redundant from his job. He said that our staff made him feel really welcome when he came to fish with us in the week. He said he had a superb day (even though the weather was awful). Mark had a nice 40lb bag of silvers, which included a nice 4lb carp. Thanks for the email Mark and I do hope you find another job really soon.

Fly Lake
Wow what a week its been. I have had some lovely compliments this week from anglers who have fished the fly lake. As you may know we have cut back all the reeds and have kept on top of the canadian week. (This is always a problem this time of the year). I have asked the lads to remove as much weed as possible (when the lake is not busy). We have also put in some extra big fish. The returns have been fantastic this week. Mike Towers (one of our regular guys) sent me a nice email saying well done on the ongoing maintenance work on the fly lake and explaining that he had caught some belting fish. Mike did a six hour catch and release session and caught 25 fish. One of the 25 fish caught was a nice 7lb 8oz and another was 5lb 8oz. I had a quick glance down the record sheet the other day and anglers have been catching large numbers of fish e.g. 12 fish, 19 fish, 10 fish. Its been a super week. One angler has sent me in some pictures of his catches. I have attached these to the email report I send out. Quite a few anglers have said that we should have a ruling that fish over 3lb should not be killed. Quite a few big fish have been taken this week. Could I ask you to email me with your thoughts on this point please. I will of course go with the majority on this one. Here are the averages for the week.
