Fishing report week ending 23rd September, 2007

Hello everyone,
I trust you are all well. Well apart from fly fishing which is still doing really well I have to report that coarse fishing is really slow at the moment. I looked back in my six years records this morning and we had a similar spell in early October in 2003. We had similar weather patterns to this autumn so I can only assume its something to do with that. We had floods on Friday due to the heavy rain, frost during the early part of the week and sunshing with highish temperatures during some parts of the week. I also speak to quite a few fishery owners on a forum and they have also reported disappointing results. Ryan (one of our resident bailiffs) was telling me that he fishes every week at another local fishery in a match. He is quite used to getting 100lb bags of silvers at this venue, but for the past two weeks the winning bag has been under 10lbs. Here is the fishing report for the week.

Main Lake (Carp)
Very slow indeed with only 3 carp brought to the bank. The biggest was a 22lb mirror. The other two were a 18lb 8oz common and a 2lb mirror. I hate to report such disappointing results but as you know we always try to tell you how it is.

Main Lake and Doughnut Lake (Pleasure)
Both lakes have performed badly this week with bags ranging from 7lb to 20lb. Feeder on maggot seems to have been the most successful. I had a email from Larry Cummings in the week. He emailed to say he only had a 12lb bag in six hours. He did say that he caught some of the nicest perch and roach he has seen from any fisheries (so that makes us feel a bit better). On the main lake pegs 50, 51, and 58 have fished the best, whilst on the Doughnut lake pegs 103, 104, and 199 have done the best using pole and maggot.

Fly Lake
Some great results from the old fly lake. Tom Jones from Preston (no not the singer) caught 12 trout on a 4 hrs ticket using fritz. David Bramely from Accrington had a great session when he caught 14 trout on a 4 hour ticket using fritz. Peter Bloxen caught 14 trout on a 3 hr ticket using lures. Here are the averages.
Monday 1.2
Tuesday 2.5
Wednesday 2.2
Thursday 4.0
Friday 0.9
Saturday 2.4

Just to remind everyone that from 30.9.2007 brown trout are out of season.

GENERAL
We are now planning our Autumn and Winter jobs. Its the time of the year when we can get on with our major projects. One of the first projects is to plant over 2,000 whips (trees). We are just waiting for the final OK from the Countryside Office and Planning Authority. This will help shelter the top part of the site. I have just been looking at the long term forecast and we could still be in for some decent weather during October. Well folks thats all for now. Hope I can bring you a more productive report next week.

Cheers
