fishing report 31st December 2006

Hello everyone,

First of all a VERY HAPPY, PEACEFUL AND SUCCESSFUL FISHING NEW YEAR. Thank you all for your patronage during 2006. Philip and I and our great team look forward to welcoming you to our banks in 2007.

I have been looking back over 2006 and thinking what we have achieved at Pendle View. Most of you will remember that Sue and Tony decided to retire in February and Philip and I took full control. Our first challenge was to improve on our facilities and in that I think we have been successful. The new bait and tackle shop and our little cafe have proved very popular. Our customers constantly compliment us on our current staff and facilities. Our challenge for 2007 is to improve the fishing and we have started by netting both the Doughnut Lake and the Main Lake. The main lake was netted on January 2nd and if you go to this link you will be able to read our netting report. I was saddened to read on one carp forum that a lot of carpers had not visited us this year because they had heard a rumour that all our carp had been sold. The netting report will put an end to this rumour for once and for all.

It was great being able to see the netting. As an owner it is always great to see the big fish being caught. To be able to see so many of them in one hour is truly amazing. I actually filmed the event and we are hoping to be able to let our customers have a CD showing you some of the highlights. Just to cover our cost we will be able to let you have them at a cost of £5 (plus postage and packing). The CD's will be available in about a weeks time. If you are interested just give the office a ring and order them by phone. You will be able to pay for them by credit card, and we will send them out to you. Alternatively you will be able to collect your copy from the office. The netting took place for one day only and I can now confirm that the main lake is open for business as usual. We did not encourage spectators because of the insurance and health and safety implications, but a few people did turn up and watched the event. It was great to hear all the WOWS AND BOY THATS A BEAUTY ETC......

One of our regulars who has been fishing Pendle now since he was a young boy came to check when we were open after the Christmas break and decided to stay and watch the netting. I asked him if he would mind acting as an independent witness to the event. His name is Glen Richardson and he is willing to be contacted by you (if you have any questions) on 07841 235992 or glenn.richardson@hotmail.co.uk

I have also asked Glenn if he would be interested in putting his own netting report together from a customers perspective and he has agreed to do this. As soon as I get his email I will publish to our web address www.pendleview.co.uk along with our own report. I can also tell you that Lee Preston from the Environmental Agency also came along to see the event.

Before I go into the main fishing report I thought I would just recap on some of the main catches of the year at Pendle View.

Largest common caught 39lb 1oz
Largest mirror 35lb
Largest grass 18lb
Largest bream 13lb 5oz
Largest roach 2lb 8oz
Largest perch 4lb 5oz
Largest tench 7lb
Biggest bag recorded in main lake 325lbs
Biggest bag recorded in the doughnut lake 80lb

Well folks here is the fishing report for last week.

Doughnut Lake (pleasure)
This lake is starting to produce some really good sport. More and more anglers are deciding to fish this lake and reporting some excellent catches of tench, ghost carp, bream and some whooping 3lb perch. The best baits are pinkies, caster and chopped worm with a little hemp to bring the roach on. The biggest bag recorded this week was a 40lb bag. Maggot on the long pole seems to be successful for catching ghosties. Remember that, until further notice, all fishing on this lake will be at concessionary rate except on match days.

Main Lake (pleasure)
The main lake is still fishing well for silvers and big perch. The second biggest perch fell to Bill Holden at 4lb 4oz. Bill was fishing using maggot feeder and changing to the ground bait feeder. Many fishermen are still enjoying loose feeding pinkies, caster or hemp for action on the whip or long pole for successful catches of silvers and skimmers. Jack and Bob - two regular anglers reported a great days fishing during the week.

Main Lake (carp)
The milder nights have started to see a couple of fish on the bank. These include 21lb mirror caught from peg 71/71. 13lb 4oz common caught from 29/30. 11lb mirror, 9lb mirror, 16lb common and a few ghosties ranging from 3lb to 7lb have fallen to fruit boilies. Sadly some carpers have reported losing fish. Many serious carpers have been to have a look at our waters ready to have some action with us.

Fly Lake
Fly fishing has seen some really good sport. Dry flys, buzzers, bloodworm and egg fly are taking fish from all over the lake. Early morning and early afternoon fishing has been the most eventful. Here are the averages for the week.

Monday 0.6
Tuesdaqy 1.1
Wednesday 2.9
Thursday 2.6
Friday 2.6
Saturday 0.4
Sunday 3.4

Well folks thats all for this week. Don't forget to look at the netting report and we look forward to seeing you on our banks in 2007

best wishes
